Market Update – October 27th, 2008:

A lot has happened since my last update.  Banks in the US have gone bankrupt, the real estate market in the US has gotten worse and looks like it is spreading to Canada, talks of a global recession have intensified, the markets have sold off tremendously, etc.  What is an investor left to do?

TFSA – Tax Free Savings Account

The Harper government got something right by introducing the TFSA or tax free savings account as part of the 2008 budget.  This is their compromise on eliminating tax on capital gains in non registered investment accounts.  The tax free savings account has become law and will be available to Canadian residents January 1st, 2009.
